OUR HISTORY IS WRITTEN AT THE SAME TIME AS THAT OF THE SMALL HAMLET OF LA TURCHE AND MORE WIDELY OF THE BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE OF LES GETS AND DU PORTES DU SOLEIL SKI AREA. It all started in 1976 with a slightly crazy bet: setting up a tiny chalet of less than 40 square meters to offer a ski rental service right at the foot of the Turche ski lift. It’s Philippe Coppel, who embarks on the adventure and takes the opportunity to give his name to his store which is still only a shed at the foot of the slopes. With his wife Hélène, they only offered a few dozen pairs of skis.
Very quickly, the business grew! It must be said that even today, Philippe Sports is the only ski rental store in the hamlet of La Turche. And then the warm and family welcome reserved for the store’s customers contributes to its reputation. In 1977 it was decided that the small chalet gave way to its big brother and the reception and storage area was doubled.
These are the great years of the growth of leisure skiing and we must seize the opportunities! During the 80s and 90s, Thierry, the son of Philippe and Hélène as well as his wife Soazig joined the store and in 1981 the chalet gave way to a large permanent building which houses both the shop and the house of the entire Coppel family. This is the one you know today!
If the store has continued to modernize, notably with the investment in cutting-edge machines for the maintenance and repair of your skis, the strong point of Philippe Sports has never changed: the warm and personalized welcome which is reserved to each of the store’s customers. A good number of regulars return year after year and generation after generation to this Mecca of La Turche which is now home to 4 generations of Coppel to welcome you.
